Listening to Pastor Marc tell the story of
starting a church because God told him to. Hearing him tell of a girl who walked over 2 hours to come to church, alone. She came to him wanting to be baptized. Pastor said yes but wanted to talk to her family. She said they were not Christians and worshiped Voodoo but he was welcome to come. He made the difficult journey but found her parents angry and not happy about their daughter's decision. After a long talk they agreed she could decide for herself and could be baptized.
They decided they would travel to her community and set up a crusade and teach the gospel. They organized a 5-day crusade supported by Children's Hope. The Haitian church members had tarps to make a tent and slept outside. During the five days of evangelism, 60 people were led to Christ. Amazing short term missions trip! Now they have a small church, and Pastor Marc has appointed a pastor who makes the journey to preach the gospel each week.
I sit back and think how amazing that is. Haitians taking national mission trips. Haitians sharing God's Word to Haitians. How amazing that Children's Hope can be a part of a great local ministry. Supporting locals doing amazing work. The longer we are in Haiti, the more I see the importance of doing work just like this. Sometimes it is hard because we want to see the fruits of God's labor, but it is also important to trust God when he asks us to give and not be directly involved. Hearing Pastor speak on reaching over 1,000 people in a week and having a church plant out of that is 100% God.
